An Example
What about Logos, Ethos and Pathos? We look at this: http://fyc.usf.edu/Documents%20Social%20and%20Political%20Arguments/Logos%20Ethos%20Pathos%20Powerpoint.ppt
We read an example Problem/ Solution essay. Page 187 in The Bedford Guide "Why Prisons Don't Work" by Wilbert Rideau.
More help with the Three Appeals: http://www.artofmanliness.com/2010/12/21/classical-rhetoric-101-the-three-means-of-persuasion/.
Homework:
1. On Tuesday next week, a mind map of your Problem/ Solution paper is due. If you prefer NOT to do a mind map, you may submit a formal outline, typed. Use complete sentences in either the mind map OR the outline.
2. TWFTD: pathetic (adj.) in OED.

Problems?
If the courts are in charge...
Do you agree with the Australian Supreme Court ruling? Do you know of any other music-related intellectual property issues?
How about this one in England? Who owns that movie?
Solutions? What's Creative Commons? and this: http://questioncopyright.org/
I hand out the assignment sheet, and you brainstorm possible topics.
Homework:
1. Be ready tomorrow to explain what your paper will be about.
2. TWFTD: "intellectual property" as a term.
