Thinkwrite: Think about the examples I shared on Monday. Is plagiarism the same as stealing?
The Five Paragraph Essay is a genre that helps you clearly explain what you think on a given topic. First, we'll look at a model essay, so you know what's expected. (handout is in moodle)
After you read the single paragraph on page 1 and the essay on page 2, do these things:
- On page 2, label the paragraphs: Intro/ Body 1/ Body 2/ Body 3/ Conclusion
- Underline the thesis statement (one sentence stating what the whole paper is about).
- Put a wavy line under the topic sentences of each body paragraph.
- Now on page 1, label each sentence with a 1,2 or 3 depending on which body paragraph it was expanded into.
- Put your name on this and keep it in your daybook.
Thinking about intellectual property and fair use, here's what YouTube tells people who want to make money. Do you think a compilation video is fair use? Does it make a difference if the sources are cited?
Is the Constitution under attack in the area of copyright?
You're going to write a short, five paragraph essay on this topic.
I pass out the prompt for this essay.
Homework:
1. Prepare the Final Version of your Summary/ Analysis paper, and bring all tan comment sheets and Writer's Page.
2. The next daybook check will be Monday. There are two tan handouts that will part of that check: your annotated article, and the worksheet of questions about your article.
2. TWFTD: plagiarism in the OED.
