Solo Project Due

Hand in your Solo papers (or Monday if you wish).

Thinkwrite:  And now for something completely different. Do you plan on getting married some day? Are you already married? Are you "in a relationship"? If not, how do you plan on finding that special someone? Do you have a plan? What do you think the purpose of marriage is?

I hand out the information sheet for the in-class assessment essay next Tuesday. This essay is worth 2 pages for your page count, if you pass.

You have time to read the article....

Homework:

1. Finish Solo Paper #3. Due Monday Mar. 10.

2. Read, annotate, think about "What's Love Got to Do with It." In-Class Essay on it Tuesday Mar. 11.

3. Work on finding sources for your Problem/ Solution  Paper with Sources. Only draft due Weds. Mar. 12. Final Version due Friday March 14.

Using the CRAAP Test

I hand out the assignment sheet for the last paper with feedback, Problem/ Solution with Sources.  Read.

Tips for Using Google.

Be ready to do a Search Log entry:

Using Google, input a search term that gives you 4 interesting sources on the first page (that relate to your Problem/ Solution paper). Do the following IN YOUR DAYBOOK for each site:

     a. Provide name of the site.
     b. Describe the site, who created it, how it looks, how big it is, etc.
     c. Explain how it either meets or fails the CRAAP test, using specific criteria (C/R/A/A/P). This CRAAP worksheet can help you.

Homework:

1. Your Solo Paper #3 is due tomorrow, Friday.

Evaluating Sources

Who filters your information for you?

Thinkwrite: Summarize the point of this comic for someone who hasn't seen it.

Let's take a quiz!

How do you choose a source of information? Below your quiz, please list your sources for news.

Here's the C.R.A.A.P. test for souces for your paper. Take notes.

Currency? Relevance? Authority? Accuracy? Purpose?

Pay attention to these factors as you look at sources.

Get out your copy of your Gale article and read/ annotate it. How well does it meet the CRAAP test? Use this CRAAP TEST WORKSHEET (thanks to Todd Davis for finding it) to evaluate it. This forms the foundation of your discussion of your article in Solo Paper #3.

Homework:

1. Work on Solo Paper #3, due Friday.

2. Remember to keep your Search Log for any online work you do on your Problem/ Solution topic.

Solo Project #3

What is a paywall? Remember Mike Mulligan?

I hand out the directions for the Short Project #3. Read the directions.

You will answer questions about the project in your daybook.

Now we get started.

Note: How will I grade the Search Log in your daybook?  I will assign something like 300 points to it. If you have a detailed log that clearly tracks every move you make as you search, you get all those points. If you do an okay job, you get 80% of those points. If you do a barely acceptable job, you get 60% of those points. Doing nothing gets you nothing. [Put yourself under a microscope.]

Homework:

1. Read and annotate the article you have chosen. Remember that when you turn in your paper about this article, you must turn in the hard copy of the article with annotations.

Problem/ Solution Edits

Thinkwrite: Your paper is in its final stages. Think now about what you need to know more about. What are some questions you could still ask someone who knows more about this than you do? If your paper is very personal, what are some general questions that you could research for the next phase of this paper? What are some possible new angles that you haven't covered. THINK.

Apostrophe Quiz. Do the quiz. When you are done, select the final score report and print just that selection to put in your daybook.  If you missed any, print the feedback report comment on what you missed.

Apostrophe Exercise in Everyday Writer:  Skim over the examples on page 420 and then do Ex. 42.1.
Copy into your daybook only the italicized words, showing how you would make each possessive.

Open your paper in Turnitin and put the finishing touches on it. Proofread.

Final version due tomorrow.

Homework:

1. Problem/ Solution Final Version Due with all drafts and comment sheets.
