Final Problem/Solution Due

You turn in your papers.

A problem  and a solution, in one place.

You have to do a search....You must look online for a piece of Problem/Solution writing. You could find this in a place you visit frequesntly (car magazine, car forum, sports site). The writer should have gathered evidence to support the solution s/he proposes. If you have no ideas, check out artofmanliness.com  or lifehacker.com or  happiness-project.com

Post a link to the site you find in the forum in our class in Moodle titled : Examples of Problem/ Solution Writing.

And do the  handout and save it in your daybook.

Homework:

1. TWFTD:  physiologically in OED

2. Have a safe weekend. Remember your cliché paper.

Short Project #3

Hmmm.  Know any clichés?

Well, here's one angle on the cliché question.

What does Everyday Writer say?  See pages 268-269.

Remember this? Derek Sivers

I pass out the assignment.

Then, you have time to bring up your Problem/ Solution paper in TurnItIn and work on editing/ proofreading. Ask me any questions you might have.

Homework:

1.  Final Version Problem/ Solution due with all purple sheets, etc. One hard copy.

2. TWFTD:  develop  (is there an opposite to de-velop? ) in OED

Draft 2 Problem/ Solution

Have one copy of your draft for class today.

Return of Summary/ Response:
A. Copy down the strengths and weaknesses I wrote at the bottom of the rubric.
B. What did you find difficult about Summary/ Response? Try to pick one step of the process.
C. Count of your   c/s    r/o    frag      errors.

Thinking about solutions...or innovations....

You exchange drafts. You may write on the draft, but remember, you're not editing, you're giving feedback.  The goal is clear, effective writing and thinking that goes in-depth.

Homework:

1. Before class tomorrow, upload your draft into Turnitin in Moodle.

2. TWFTD:  evidence in OED

Evidence

Hans Rosling.

What are his sources? Can we find out? gapminder.org

My current read (listen): Being Wrong   Can you take it?  How else do we learn?

In The Bedford Guide: Read pages 40-43.

What are some ways firsthand observation can be mistaken?

being blind...     seeing colors....        memory?

You must describe the problem AND analyze the causes of the problem. Describe your solutions and consider any drawbacks. For this version of the paper, firsthand observation is acceptable evidence. This is YOUR OWN INSIGHTFUL thinking about causes and effects; not what other people say, but possibilities YOU can explore. For Long Assignment #4 you will add input from other sources.

Homework:

1. Problem/Solution Draft 2 is due tomorrow. Have one copy for class. The final version is due on Thursday.

2. TWFTD: reliable AND rely in the OED
