Short Project #4

IP returned. Trademark news. Power HourReal world problem/solution writing.

Read in Ev. Wr. page 219 and anwer (thinkwrite) this question: what's wrong with using clichés?

Favorite clichés?  List all the clichés you can think of.

Now, divide them into categories.  (Description, advice, ???) We list them.

Many cliches seem to be similes or analogies. Here we have the internet and email as a source: Why English Teachers Die Young. Note that snopes.com is the place to find out the truth of some internet oddities.

Take the handout and copy down your two favorite "lame analogies" in your daybook.

Here's a bit of cliched advice: don't talk to strangers.

See handout and prompt for the next short essay.

Tomorrow you will have 40 minutes to handwrite a response to this prompt in your daybook.  You will take it with you and type it up, due Tuesday March 5. I'll be picking up daybooks Monday and Tuesday, depending on whether you need it.

Homework:

1.  Your Final Version Problem/Solution is due.

2.  Be thinking of a cliché you will write about for Short Project #4.

3.  Copy your two favorite "lame analogies" into your daybook.

4.  TWFTD:  cliché in OED.
