C.S. and Frag. and R.O.

What are c.s. r.o. and frag.? How many were marked in the margins of your Solo #1 paper?

Which of the following are sentences (independent clauses)?

Loving cats in my house.

All the cats in my house scratching the furniture.

On the furniture, in the kitchen, under the bed.

For example, the calico and the mangy gray cats.

How do we correctly and clearly combine ideas? Usually, a conjunction is involved. Handout.

Here are some short sentences:

My dog loves to chase cats.

Our barn is full of cats.

Most of the cats on my place ignore the dog.

No cat has ever been injured by my dog.

Please create two long sentences. In one of them, use coordination to combine two of these sentences. In the other, use subordination to combine two of these sentences.

Now, we discuss the summary/response assignment.

Homework:

1. Continue to read and understand "Black Men and Public Space." Make sure you understand all the vocabulary in it. Complete your page of notes.

2. Tomorrow you will have 45 minutes to type on your Solo Paper #2. You are using this time to practice for the timed in-class assessment essay that will occur near the end of the quarter.

3. TWFTD: your choice from "Black Men and Public Space."

4. Additional help with cs/ro/frag issues:   If you have few errors, but want to think more about HOW you put ideas together, read pages 287-294.  If you have many errors, read pages 385-396. (All reading in The Everyday Writer.)
